For boaters who are avid fans of  scalloping, there’s some fantastic news in the making. As anybody who hunts or fishes know, there are a lot of things that depend upon the laws and regulations of your area regarding fishing and wildlife. For those in the state of Florida, the Florida Wildlife Commission who sets the Gulf County 2019 bay scallop season has moved forward with draft scallop seasons for 2020 and beyond in all open areas. What this means is that the FWC now allows for the direct transit of legally harvested bay scallops across areas that are closed to harvest. In boating terms, this means that you as a boater is able to leave from your home port and travel to the scallop grounds sanctioned by the FWC,harvest scallops in this area, and return through the closed area with your catch. These new allowances provide for larger amounts of freedom and remains consistent with other laws. It also reduces traffic on the roads and boat ramps in the open area. Of course, you’ll need a boat to suit your needs in order to make this scalloping season a success! Boat and Motor Superstores in Palm Harbor is one of the top boat dealers near Tampa. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Set New 2019 Season

For the Gulf County of Florida, the 2019-only bar scallop season has been set for Aug 16 through Sept. 15. Other 2019 bay scallop seasons were also set earlier this year for all the other open areas excluding the Gulf County. You’re able to access other scallop season facts, dates, regulations, and more information at MyFWC.com/Marine. Simply click on “Recreational Regulations” and “Bay Scallops,” which is all located under the “Crabs, Shrimp, and Shellfish” tab. The proposed changes by the FWC for 2020 and beyond were moved forward with, and that will be brought back before the Commission at its May meeting for a final public hearing. There are certain points which may be relevant for boaters and scalloping enthusiasts that Boat and Motor Superstores, one of the top boat dealers near Tampa will note. Firstly, the FWC will be setting the bay scallop season in state waters from Franklin through Northwestern Taylor County and Levy, Citrus, and Hernando counties to be July 1 through Sept. 24 every year.

Scalloping Season Guidelines for 2019

The FWC is setting the bay scallop season in state waters for Pasco County to begin on  the third Friday in July and run 10 days every year, as well as setting the bay scallop season in state waters for Dixie County as well as the portion that is left of Taylor County to begin in June 15 and run through Sept 10 every year. There is a reduced bag limit included in this proposal from the beginning of the season through June 30; with the regular bag limit starting on July 1. As mentioned above, the bay scallop season for Gulf Country isset for July 1 through Sept 24 for 2020 and beyond unless modified by Executive Order, and again legally harvested bay scallops are allowed to be transported across areas that are closed to harvest.
